Moss Bros has appointed Debbie Hewitt as independent non-executive chairman.

Hewitt had been acting as interim chairman at the menswear business since March 25, when David Adams, formerly finance director and deputy chief executive of department store House of Fraser, exited the business.

Hewitt joined the board of Moss Bros in June 2009.

Moss Bros chief executive Brian Brick said: “The board is delighted Debbie has accepted the invitation to take up the role of Chairman in a permanent capacity.  With her wealth of knowledge and experience she has contributed significantly to the board since her appointment as a non executive director in June last year and I look forward to working with her as chairman.”

In the year to January 30, pre-tax losses at Moss Bros narrowed to £3.9m against £5m the year before. EBITDA rose to £3.2m from £1.4m and sales dropped 0.7% to £128.7m. Full year like-for-likes were down 0.4%.
