Morrisons executive director Roger Owen will retire from the supermarket group in October next year. His retirement will coincide with his 60th birthday.

Owen joined the company in 1975 and was responsible for site acquisition, construction, estate management, refrigeration services and energy management.

Last month, Morrisons posted a steep rise in profits, but like-for-like sales growth slowed to 2.7 per cent for the 25 weeks to July 29.
