Mexx is on the hunt for a new chief executive officer to help it accelerate the turnaround of its business.

The fashion retailer, owned by US group Liz Claiborne, has brought in an interim chief executive officer Tom Fitzgerald while it looks for a European chief.

Liz Claiborne chief executive officer William L McComb said: “We have made significant progress executing our turnaround plan at Liz Claiborne, the Mexx turnaround process is at a critical juncture and we believe product enhancements, structural changes and the new leadership are necessary to reinvigorate the brand and improve performance.”

The retailer has also brought in John Moore, who has worked with Abercrombie & Fitch’s Hollister fascia, as consulting vice-president.

Earlier this year, Mexx announced it would close its 61 retail outlets across the UK.
