M&S to kick off jobs cull with head office cuts

Marks & Spencer plans to shed 1,000 head office jobs amid fears that more may follow.

The number amounts to 20 per cent of the 5,000-strong workforce across four offices at Baker Street, Stockley Park, Manchester and Chester.

The cuts follow a review and are due in part to what M&S described as 'technological enablement and outsourcing'.

M&S expects the initial 500 job cuts this year to generate£25 million in cost savings.

The retailer will release a fourth-quarter trading update on Wednesday.
