Value retailer M&Co has appointed fashion retail veteran Sim Scavazza as buying director. She will take over the board-level role in October.

Scavazza replaces Louise Koser, who is leaving to become managing director of off-price furniture retailer HomeSense, sister chain to TK Maxx, and she will be responsible for all buying and sourcing.

Scavazza, who started her career as a buyer at River Island, spent seven years at Arcadia Group-owned Miss Selfridge, latterly as brand director. She left in 2007 to join ethical etailer Adili.com as executive creative director. She has been working as a consultant since leaving in March 2009.

Verdict Research analyst Maureen Hinton said M&Co has established a mid-market position. “If [Scavazza] uses her fashion experience, it could differentiate the range and give it a unique look,” she said.
