Town centres particularly hit by cold weather
The cold spell is continuing to keep some shoppers away from UK high streets, but there are reasons to be positive, according to figures from FootFall.

The figures show 2.7 per cent fewer shoppers visiting retail destinations between March 13 and March 19 compared with the same week last year. Town centres have been particularly badly hit by the cold weather, with a fall of 4.9 per cent.

However, there was a significant improvement of 1.2 per cent on the previous week.

FootFall marketing director Natasha Burton said: 'Both the overall national index and town centre index demonstrated a week-on-week improvement, indicating that shoppers undertook visits to the high street, which may have been postponed from previous, colder weeks. With Mother's Day on the horizon, retailers will be hoping to build on this momentum.'
