Land Securities is to open two kilometres of shops within 24 hours next year when it opens schemes in Leeds and Glasgow.

Shopping centre Trinity Leeds and the 185-221 Buchanan Street development will open on March 21 and 22 respectively.

The one million sq ft retail scheme in Yorkshire is now 84% pre-let or in solicitors’ hands and is set to employ 3,500 people. The centre brings a number of brands to Leeds for the fist time, including Victoria’s Secret Hollister, Fossil, Mango, and Superdry.

The Buchanan Street development will include the first Forever 21 in Scotland alongside brands such as Paperchase, Gap, Fat Face, Skechers and Office.

Forever 21 chief executive Don Chang said: “We are excited about coming to the trendy fashion capital of Scotland and opening one of our largest stores in the UK. This new retail scheme enticed us to enter the Scottish market with a super store that offers the right space in a first-class location.”

Land Securities head of retail development Lester Hampson said: “Land Securities is bringing an extra two kilometres of retail frontage to the UK market in one day. Our confidence in the success of both the Trinity Leeds and Buchanan Street schemes sends a very clear message to the international market: the UK economy is growing, and is open for business.”
