John Lewis has been crowned the UK’s top retailer for customer satisfaction for the second year running, a survey by retail analyst group Verdict has found.

The department store group, which celebrates its 150th anniversary next month, also scooped the best homewares and electricals retailer gong.

Verdict polled more than 5,800 customers, who were asked to rate retailers on a variety of areas such as convenience, price, service and facilties.

Homewares retailer Dunelm was ranked the second best retailer overall moving up from third place last year, while IKEA was in third position. Brantano and Matalan took fourth and fifth place respectively.

Waitrose took the top spot in food and grocery, followed by value chains Aldi and Lidl. Within clothing, H&M was crowned the best retailer, followed by Matalan and JD Sports.

In DIY, Screwfix came top, followed by B&Q and Wickes.

Verdict launched new categories this year to celebrate online retail. John Lewis won the best online retailer overall and best online fulfilment retailer. Amazon scooped best online pureplay while Next topped the charts for the best click & collect service.

Verdict lead analyst Sarah Peters said: “John Lewis retained its title this year coming top overall as well as in its main product categories of homewares and electricals. As Britain’s favourite retailer, John Lewis continues to deliver the product ranges, inspiration and trust that customers appreciate.”
