Grocer Woolworths revealed that full-year sales from continuing operations rose 4.8% to A$55.13bn (£36.4bn) in the 12 months to June 24.

The continued roll-out of Woolworths’ new 2015 store format, with a focus on value and innovations in fresh food, contributed to the rise.

The retailer opened 38 Australian supermarkets during the year, bringing its total to 872.
