Off-price furniture retailer HomeSense, the sister brand of TK Maxx, has opened a new-model, larger-format store in Merry Hill as it gears up to launch its first transactional website.

The 27,000 sq ft shop is the retailer’s biggest so far, and features a wider selection of products.

Deborah Dolce, senior vice-president for brand and business development for TJX Europe, parent of HomeSense, said the new format gives HomeSense the “opportunity to bring the shopper even more choice, in terms of brands and categories.”

She said: “Our concept is hugely flexible and trades well in a wide range of locations, sizes and configurations”. HomeSense now has 17 stores in the UK, with three more opening by the end of July.

TK Maxx had previously been tentatively testing online with a fashion accessories offer and is now preparing to launch a dedicated HomeSense site.

The retailer declined to comment on its plans, but is sending out email communications to customers saying homewares will be available to buy online “soon”.

Property agent Morgan Williams acted for the retailer on the Merry Hill store.
