HMV has relocated its headquarters from London’s West End to the Blackfriars area of the capital.

The move follows a downsizing of the workforce after redundancies were made at head office as part of the redundancy process. HMV collapsed into administration in January, and was later acquired by restructuring firm Hilco in April.

HMV’s new offices are at Mermaid House, Puddle Dock, Blackfriars. The retailer has moved from Eastcastle Street, located behind its flagship Oxford Street store.

The news comes as it emerged that Sports Direct is set to acquire the Oxford Street flagship from HMV, which will relocate to the store on the street presently occupied by Footlocker. It would be a return to its roots for HMV. Sir Edward Elgar opened his first His Master’s Voice shop on the site, at 363 Oxford Street.
