Morrisons has entered the music festival market with the launch of a new summer event.

The grocer will be the headline sponsor of MFest which takes place at Harewood House near Leeds on July 7-8.

Texas, The Human League, Bob Geldof and Soul II Soul will play live at the event alongside current chart acts including Cher Lloyd and Matt Cardle.

Morrisons expects 30,000 attendees at the two-day event which will also feature comedy acts, sporting legends and children’s entertainers.

The event is set to help Morrisons charity, Raise a Smile, reach a target of £500,000 for Save the Children.

Last month, Sainsbury’s revealed it is also set to enter the lucrative festival market with its Jubilee Family Festival in June.

TV gardener Diarmuid Gavin will be hosting events at the Morrison Let’s Grow Patch on the site.

Morrisons commercial director Richard Hodgson said: “MFEST will be a unique addition to the festival market with not only a glittering array of entertainment for all ages, but a brand new, reinterpretation of festival food: from fantastic gourmet meals, to on-the-go treats, to live demos and interactive stalls for everyone to get involved and get creative.”

Tickets will go on sale next Friday.
