Lidl GB has promoted from within to find its new chief operating officer to replace the departing Maciej Tylkowski.

The discounter has appointed Roberto Eretta, who is currently the COO of Lidl Italy. He will join the Lidl GB board when Tylkowski moves into a new international position at the discounter in the summer.

Eretta has been with Lidl for nearly 20 years, previously as human resources director before taking his current role with the Italian arm of the business in 2020.

“Since beginning my career almost two decades ago as an area manager in Lidl Italy, I’ve been passionate about sales and providing our customers with outstanding service,” he said.

“I’m excited to join the team in GB and share my love for offering the best possible experience while delivering quality and affordability at the same time.”

Tylkowski has worked for Lidl for over 25 years, having joined the business as a store assistant after attending university, before being promoted to several senior management positions.

He was responsible for helping spearhead the launch of Lidl in Poland in 2001 and joined GB as chief operating officer in 2023, becoming responsible for the brand’s sales, logistics and supply chain.

Eretta added: “Maciej has done incredible work at Lidl GB, implementing strategies and innovations to enhance the in-store experience and strengthen the competitive position.”
