Food inflation eases to 2.5% as retailers lean on promotions
UK food inflation slowed in September as retailers extended promotions on meat and dairy to win back shoppers after a hot summer, partly reversing August’s price jump.
Food inflation eased to 2.5% from 2.8% in August, according to the BRC-NIQ Shop Price Monitor. Fresh food inflation fell to 2.6% from 3.0%, while ambient food inflation slowed to 2.2% from 2.5%.
