Ecommerce grocer Ocado has been forced to temporarily close access to its website and stopped accepting new deliveries as it struggles to deal with “staggering” levels of demand.

In a statement this afternoon, Ocado said it would temporarily close access to Ocado.com until Saturday in order to “complete essential work that will help to make sure distribution of products and delivery slots” are fair and accessible.

The online grocer said it was “fully booked for the next four days” and that those customers with deliveries ordered for tomorrow or Friday would not be able to edit those orders online, though they still would arrive as scheduled.

The retailer said the website would be reopened for new delivery orders on Saturday.
