Competition watchdog flags potential issues with proposed Co-op merger

The Co-op Group’s proposed acquisition of the Southern Co-op has been flagged as potentially harmful to competition in the sector, according to the CMA.

The firms have been given until September 22 to put forward measures to resolve any potential competition issues. If not, the CMA will refer the acquisition to a so-called phase two investigation.
