Asda has appointed Jon Downes as its new vice president – ambient, further strengthening its senior leadership team.

The retailer said Downes is “an experienced and accomplished commercial leader”, having worked at several UK grocers, including Tesco, Morrisons, and most recently Marks & Spencer, where he had been food commercial operations director for nearly two years.
Asda said Downes will be responsible in his new role for “leading [its] ambient category, with a focus on delivering strong commercial results, building collaborative supplier partnership and supporting Asda’s continued commitment to providing great value and quality for customers”.
He will report directly to chief commercial officer Darren Blackhurst and will take up his new role with the retailer in August.
Blackhurst said: “Jon brings a wealth of experience and a strong track record of delivering commercial outcomes that create value for customers, colleagues, and suppliers alike.
“I’m looking forward to working with him as we continue to strengthen our commercial proposition”.
