Aldi CEO on where he’s investing as profits stand still

Aldi’s annual update showed flat profits but chief executive Giles believes volumes are what matter, and aims to ‘lean in on what makes us different’ as he questions the value of loyalty schemes to shoppers

Aldi generated record sales of £19bn last year, although profits edged slightly down to £432.9m. Boss Giles Hurley was unfazed by flat earnings, but encouraged by ongoing performance according to the metrics the grocer cares most about.
