Phil Spencer hits the wheels of steel at Topps Tiles, Seb James dons his hard hat at Dixons Carphone and Pets at Home shares the love.

Topps of the pops

Topps Tiles boss Matt Williams has famously appeared on the retailer’s in-house radio station, but now he is dragging in his celebrity pals.
Straight after officially opening Topps Tiles’ new lab store in Worcester (pictured), Location, Location, Location presenter Phil Spencer was whisked off to broadcast on TilesFM.

He revealed he was planning to spin a few Queen hits and the latest Stereophonics single, C’est La Vie. Could this be the start of a new radio DJ-ing career for Spencer?

A Williams and Spencer radio double act would surely be a winning combination. The public is calling out for ‘Matt and Phil’s Sunday love songs’. It can only be a matter of time before Magic FM comes knocking.

Seb the builder

The Dixons Carphone merger is continuing apace and the simple matter of building work is not going to put a spanner in the works. The retailer is in the process of moving from Hemel Hempstead to Acton in London.

When talking about the disruption, boss Sebastian James joked that “if you come to our office now you will have to wear a hard hat”. No pictures have yet emerged of what the exec team looks like in hard hats, but here is an artist’s impression.

Talk to the animals

What makes for a dedicated pet owner? Apparently in the eyes of retailer Pets at Home, if somebody says “I love you” to their furry friend more than twice a day then they classify as an “engaged owner”.

These things matter when it comes to working out the type of customer Pets at Home is targeting.

And judging by the retailer’s impressive full-year numbers last week, there are plenty of people who are not afraid to show their love for their pets.
Hopefully those same people express as much affection towards the humans they share their homes with.
