Jaeger owner Harold Tillman is eyeing up British luxury retailer Aquascutum.

Tillman, who is also chairman of the British Fashion Council, is understood to be considering a bid for Aquascutum, which has been owned by Japanese company Renown since 1990.

It is understood Tillman has been considering a bid for some time but increased his attention since Renown put its 343-strong workforce into consultation and invited bids for the company in June. This move followed the departure of chief executive Kim Winser in May following a failed management buy out.

The owner of brand Crombie is also understood to have been interested in the retailer.
