Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days, with updates from WH Smith, Quiz and Joules on the agenda, plus the latest BRC retail sales figures, all on the agenda.

BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Index barometer

The sector’s monthly sales barometer is out on Tuesday. The retail sector will hope that warmer weather combined with the show-stopping royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have boosted sales in May after a dismal April, when retail sales recorded their steepest drop on record.

AO

The electricals etailer is set to unveil its full-year results on Tuesday. AO will no doubt be braced for questions on its profitability and expansion ambitions, as well as unveiling the impact that the ‘beast from the east’ on their sales.

Quiz

The fashion retailer will update the market with its final results on Tuesday, June 5. Quiz, which floated last year, saw sales rocketing over its first golden quarter as a listed company. It hailed “strong trading” across all channels as sales leapt 32%. Online sales leapt 119% as international revenues jumped 51%.

WH Smith

The stationery retailer will report its quarterly trading on Tuesday. At its last update, WH Smith deviated from its usual profit rise as interim profits edged down. Gains from its travel arm were offset by its underperforming high street business.

Joules

The fashion retailer will report a pre-close update on Thursday, June 7. Joules is expected to reveal rising sales and profits as its colourful, preppy aesthetic continues to charm middle England. Both chief customer officer Lysa Hardy and chief commercial officer Kara Groves left the business recently.
