The White Company has confirmed that chief executive Paula Nickolds has stepped away from the business, after two years in the top role.
Nickolds joined the business in 2024 from Sainsbury’s, where she was general merchandise commercial director between May 2021 and January 2024.
Before joining the grocery giant, Nickolds spent 25 years at John Lewis, the last three of which she spent as managing director.
The White Company said Nickolds has navigated the business through a demanding period in a tough trading environment for the wider retail sector, but was leaving the company with “real momentum” behind it.
Founder Chrissie Rucker said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Paula enormously for her commitment and leadership during an exceptionally demanding time.
“She has guided the business with resilience and dedication, and we are grateful for the important contribution she has made in positioning The White Company for the future.”
Nickolds said: “I am proud of what the team has achieved over the past two years in genuinely difficult circumstances. There is much still to do, but the foundations are in place for a confident future.
“Stepping back now was not an easy decision, but the right one for my family at the time. The White Company will always have a special place in my heart, and I wish it and everyone in it every success.”
As was first reported by Drapers, Nickolds is stepping down to spend more time with her husband, who has a serious illness.
