Topshop has taken the unprecedented step of closing its store estate in a drive to overhaul its merchandising ahead of the crucial Christmas trading period.

The retailer “reset” half its stores last night and is set to tackle the other half overnight next Sunday.

The extensive “reset” programme, which Arcadia has not undertaken before, is intended to better prepare its stores for peak trading as the fashion market becomes increasingly tough amid inflationary pressures and shaky consumer confidence.

So, will Topshop’s reset do the trick and revitalise the brand in time for peak trading?

Retail Week visited the newly reset Strand store to find out.
