Fashion climate emissions increased by double digits over two years

The fashion industry’s combined greenhouse gas emissions climbed in both 2023 and 2024 due to increased global production of fibres such as polyester, according to a new report.

In 2024 alone, fashion as a sector generated roughly one gigaton of greenhouse emissions – roughly the same as the entire climate footprint of Japan, according to the report.
