For some Mark Wright, former The Only Way is Essex star, might seem like a strange fit for Littlewoods as he fronts the retailer’s new menswear collection. But I think he will give the brand the edginess it needs to engage with a more fashion-conscious man.

Wright told Retail Week today that Littlewoods got in contact when the retailer found out he wanted to branch out into the fashion industry.

“I thought ‘what a massive brand and what an opportunity’,” he adds.

“I really enjoyed designing the clothes. I like shopping, and designing your own clothes is like that but better. They are like your perfect clothes.”

Despite creating his fame name through a reality TV show, Wright has proven himself as a TV presenter in his own right. He stars in Take Me Out: The Gossip and his new show International Party Liaison is set to be watched by young men who want to emulate the ladies’ man, as well as young women who want to be in his flirty company.

He is also a DJ with radio station Heart FM and has now added designing clothes to his repertoire.

“Everything looks good”, he says. “I wanted to make clothes that I’d wear. They’re classic and simple.”

Wright’s collection is made up of sharp suits, summer menswear and Essex-inspired skinny jeans. One of the key pieces is the onesie, which Wright is a big fan of after he was won over by it when he secretly tried one on and has loved it ever since. But he revealed it took him two months to admit to his friends that he wore the controversial garment.

It is a change from the previous clean-cut Littlewoods menswear ambassador Steve Jones, another TV presenter who has made the jump from teen TV shows to prime-time.

I think Littlewoods menswear brand Goodsouls should see a good boost to sales with Wright on its books. But then again, with my Essex roots, I am a little biased.
