Former Kingfisher director Jim Weight is among the bidders for troubled electricals chain Comet, it is understood.

Weight, whose business Weight Partners specialises in turnarounds and restructuring, last week joined the ranks of potential buyers of Comet, including GA Europe, Gordon Brothers, Hilco and OpCapita, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

He has served in the past on various divisional boards of Kingfisher – owner of Comet and French counterpart Darty before they were spun off separately as Kesa – and also spent eight years at Boston Consulting.

Weight Partners controls TV rental specialist Boxclever and Irish builders’ merchant group BHT.

Kesa is considering offers for loss-making Comet in tandem with turnaround plans of its own.
