Liberty has appointed a new CFO from Debenhams to work alongside its new chief executive, hired last month.

Rob Unsworth joins the luxury department store from his role of finance director at Debenhams. He has previously worked across commercial and operational finance in the retail sector.

He joins just a month after Adil Mehboob-Khan,who joined as chief executive from luxury accessories group Luxottica.

Mehboob-Khan joined Liberty after a period when the department store was without a chief executive following the departure of Ed Burstell, who left to run Hudson’s Bay Company in Canada.

Liberty has historically been focused on its London flagship with product only available in other locations via its website. But at the time of his appointment, Mehboob-Khan alluded to “the national icon’s significant global potential”.

Unsworth said: “With a strong foundation of its historically significant central London flagship store and a brand that is treasured by both its customers and colleagues, there is significant potential to grow the Liberty London retail, fabric and wholesale businesses worldwide.”
