The retailer has given customers an extra day to complete their online Christmas shopping by extending its deadline for pre-Christmas deliveries until 4pm on December 22.

Click and collect has also been extended, allowing shoppers until midday on December 23 to arrange their orders from a John Lewis or Waitrose branch on Christmas Eve.

John Lewis executive director Pippa Wicks said: “While some retailers closed their delivery windows early, we’ve been able to extend ours even closer to Christmas, which is great news for all those last-minute shoppers.

“Our teams are working flat out to guarantee customers’ deliveries before Christmas and, while we have great capacity, slots are limited so book soon to avoid disappointment.”

The retailer said click-and-collect orders hit a new record this year, with the number of parcels processed on 18 and 19 December up 25% year on year.

It also reported an uptick in footfall, with last week’s shopper numbers up 26% on last year.
