Luxury department store Harrods has today opened a 6,000 sq ft store in London Gatwick’s South Terminal is prepares to welcome 22 new and revamped shops by the end of the year.

The upmarket retailer’s Gatwick store is focused on luxury fashion, accessories and jewellery, and offers brands such as Paul Smith, DKNY and Armani Jeans. The shop also includes a Harrods’ Food Hall area.

The opening of the Harrods’ store forms part of a £21m revamp of the South Terminal departure lounge.  

Ten new and revamped stores in the South Terminal, including Kurt Geiger, Hugo Boss and Lacoste, opened their doors on July 18. An additional 12 new or revamped stores, mainly fashion-focused, will open in the South Terminal later this year.

Airport retail is becoming an increasingly attractive option for retailers. John Lewis said at the start of the month that it plans to launch a store at Heathrow Terminal 2 next year. WH Smith is one of the most prominent UK retailers in this sector and it continues to invest in this area, launching several new formats in its travel shops.

The new Harrods store at Gatwick is a very important part of this. Not only does it look fantastic, the boutique offers an excellent mix of brands that will delight our passengers.”
