Fortnum & Mason has hailed a “record-breaking” Christmas after posting double-digit growth across all its channels.

The luxury department store’s total sales were up 12% year on year during the five weeks to December 30.

Online sales during the same period surged 37%, while total sales in the week before Christmas increased 23%.

It said sales at its flagship Piccadilly store were “driven by an ever-increasing number of domestic customers”.

In December, 83% of all sales at the iconic shop came from British shoppers. Revenues from international visitors jumped 16% compared to last Christmas.

Fortnum & Mason boss Ewan Venters said: “We’re thrilled at the growth in sales across all channels. Whether it’s champagne, truffles, caviar or tea and biscuits, our results are evidence that there is demand for quality products and unique experience.”
