Asda has charged ahead in the petrol price war, slashing its prices by 2p for unleaded petrol and 4p for diesel across all of its forecourts with effect from tomorrow.

This is in addition to the 3p price cuts announced by the supermarket last week, which sparked Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s to slash their prices and launch petrol promotions to help cash-strapped motorists.

The price cuts will come into effect across the country and will not be area-specific.

Asda trading director David Miles said: “At Asda, you pay the same low fuel prices whether you’re in Elgin or Eastbourne. The latest price cut is a further example of our commitment to make motoring more affordable for UK drivers and hopefully this time our competitors will follow suit, rather than charging locally high prices.”
