Asda is to develop another 9,300 sq m Asda Wal-Mart supercentre in Denbigh, Milton Keynes.
A planning application has been lodged as part of the Stadium MK project, which will include a 30,000 seat stadium to house the Wimbledon soccer franchise, which is relocating to Milton Keynes.
In a similar deal, the Asda Wal-Mart supercentre in Eastlands, Manchester helped finance the construction of the City of Manchester stadium, home of the 2002 Commonwealth Games and shortly to be taken over by Manchester City football club.
Overall, the Milton Keynes project will see the development of 30 ha of land close to Bletchley town centre.
In addition to the superstore and stadium, it will include a 6,500 sq m DIY store and garden centre, a new 6,500 seat arena for the MK Lions basketball team, a four-storey media village building, a 200-bed hotel, restaurants, a health & fitness club and two fast food outlets.
Asda senior development surveyor Mark Turner said: ‘Milton Keynes is the largest city in the UK, which does not have an Asda. Asda has experience in enabling sporting facilities to become a reality - it worked in Manchester and we have every confidence that it will work in Milton Keynes.’
