A former Toys R Us manager who stole more than £3m from the company to pay for call girls, luxury cars and houses has been ordered to repay a majority of the cash or face another ten years in prison.

Paul Hopes, who worked in accounts at the company’s Maidenhead head office, is already serving seven years in prison after being found guilty last December of stealing £3.68m. He admitted to 14 counts of theft and four of transferring criminal property.

Yesterday Reading Crown Court ordered him to repay £3.36m or face having his sentence extended. The Thames Valley Police Economic Crime Unit has already frozen assets and property that are part of the cash.

Over several years, the 59 year old married father-of-two siphoned off regular instalments of £300,000 to the account of a fictitious toy manufacturer called Dunbar Associations, named after one of his female escorts.

He used the cash to pay for prostitutes, cars, including a Bentley Continental Flying Spur and a BMW 3 convertible, property, jewellery and designer clothes.
