Tesco may push ahead with plans to launch an online estate agency despite fierce opposition from other estate agents and the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).

The news came just two weeks after the OFT advised the supermarket giant to suspend its existing online property offering. The service, launched in June, offered customers space to advertise their properties for£199.

Estate agents had complained to the OFT over fears that they would be undercut by the supermarket and raised concerns that Tesco was not acting under the same rules as others in the property market.

A spokeswoman for Tesco said that the supermarket was now reviewing its options “with a view to launching an exciting online estate agency service”.

Last month, Tesco suspended its property service and offered a refund to customers who had already used the site.

Separately, it has been reported that the newly reformed Spice Girls will be the face of Tesco’s new multimillion-pound Christmas ad campaign.
