McDonald’s is trialling a new store format on London’s Fleet Street in a bid to cater to customers on the move.

‘McDonald’s to Go’ will offer a reduced menu only available to takeaway with a bigger focus on speed of service.

The fast-food giant’s new store concept is designed for customer’s looking to “grab something to eat on the move” and has no seating area and smaller self-order screens.

The Fleet Street store will also feature new branding on takeaway bags and a new uniform for staff, who will be serving all the menu favourites including McNuggets and Big Macs.

The new concept is the latest phase in the business’ ongoing investment to “evolve its restaurants in the UK”.

McDonald’s has invested £4.3bn in its restaurants since arriving in the UK 45 years ago and has created over 2.1 million jobs throughout the country.

McDonald’s UK & Ireland senior vice president of development and IT Henry Trickey said: “It’s an exciting but challenging time to be in the restaurant sector. Changing tastes, new technology and more competition mean we need to continue to focus on investing in what matters most to our customers.

“We know that one size doesn’t fit all and that’s exactly why we are launching McDonald’s to Go – to allow us to trial different formats in different locations, depending on customer needs.

“In Fleet Street, where city workers are looking for something quick to grab on the go, it makes sense to test a smaller format – no seating and takeaway only with a reduced menu will allow us to focus on speed of service. However, the next McDonald’s to Go could look very different.

“This is all about testing and learning – we’ll see what works and listen to the customer response.”
