This speculation over Amazon wanting to open up to 400 stores across the US has come from one throwaway line during an analyst call from the executive of a property company. It has no basis other than that.

Amazon may well be interested in stores, but at this stage no one knows their plans. Indeed, if this executive was involved in discussions with Amazon over things like leases then he would hardly be in a position to reveal such information into the public domain.
