Beauty retailers likely to get biggest slice
The BRC is forecasting that Mothers' Day will give the retail sector a welcome lift, with this Sunday's celebration expected to bring in£1.5 billion - up 8 per cent on last year.

Consumers are expected to buy 30 million cards and 7 million bunches of flowers, but beauty retailers are expected to reap higher rewards than the card vendors and flower sellers.

The biggest collective spend this year will be on health and beauty gift sets, worth a total of£440 million. This is followed by£225 million to be spent on the traditional favourite of cut flowers,£106 million on gardening-related presents and£90 million on jewellery.
