Carphone Warehouse’s UK marketing director Dominic Rowell has left the retailer.

Rowell was responsible for retail and product marketing and brand development. He joined the mobile phone retailer in January from McDonald’s where he was UK head of marketing. The company is recruiting for a replacement.

Carphone Warehouse announced this morning that its second quarter mobile phone connections beat forecasts with a 19.2 per cent rise and that it was confident about the full-year outlook.

Carphone finance director Roger Taylor said the growth was driven by its retail outlets, rather than its newspaper offers. Of the 2.8 million total connections, pre-pay phones increased 27 per cent. “Given the economic environment people are cautious about signing up to bigger commitments,” he said. “I sense a psyche towards flexibility.”

The group added 89,000 broadband customers, to give it a total of 2.5 million. It unbundled 411,000 customers in the quarter, a key indication of performance as customers move to its own network and not BTs, to give it 55 percent of the base.

Carphone Warehouse said it expected to report headline pre-tax profits of£53 million to£56 million for the first half.

Carphone Warehouse will start selling the much-anticipated iPhone in the UK on November 9 alongside operator O2.
