Lidl has long-term plans to operate 1,500 stores in the UK and is currently targeting 1,100 UK stores by 2025. By the end of 2021 there were more than 12,000 Lidl discount stores worldwide.

The German discounter is focused on supporting its ambitious store expansion plan and driving efficiencies throughout the business. A key project has been the consolidation of its various business systems onto a new SAP platform.

In order to get customers through the tills quicker, the retailer is keen to trial innovations, being an early adopter of contactless payment, for example.

The limited assortment discounter has been a runaway success in the UK in recent years and remains focused on widening its appeal, particularly by improving and expanding its premium proposition.
