£9.50 bag too similar to Choo's £495 number
High street retailer M&S is to withdraw thousands of handbags from sale after a dispute with designer brand Jimmy Choo.

The upmarket label claimed the retailer's bag design was too similar to its own. M&S's satin evening bag is a steal at£9.50 and a popular piece in their three-for-two Christmas sales promotion, but the Jimmy Choo version is a budget-buster at£495.

Marks & Spencer has sold a large number of the handbags already. M&S released a statement saying: 'Jimmy Choo and Marks & Spencer have reached a confidential financial settlement, to the satisfaction of both parties. The handbag has been removed from sale by Marks & Spencer, with no admission of liability.'

In September, fashion retailer New Look had to withdraw more than a thousand pairs of its Bonbon shoe, after Jimmy Choo threatened the young fashion group with legal action.

The upmarket brand accused New Look of infringing its intellectual property and damage to its reputation. New Look was set to pay£80,000 to cover the brand's legal costs.

New Look chief executive Phil Wrigley said he had agreed to settle out of court on principle.
