Retail is a female industry when it comes to its shoppers. Its spenders are largely women, it’s marketed to women and its target customer is referred to as ‘she’. A better boardroom mix is integral to business success – so why isn’t it led by more women?

The answer in part lies in the shortage of role models in the sector, which is hindering the confidence of many women in progressing their careers. The debate around women in retail needs to be elevated beyond just quotas and encouraging more female leaders, to one of how we explore the career potential of women and provide practical inspiration and networking opportunities.
