Chapelfield shoplifter makes brutal attack
A HMV security guard has been stabbed to death by a suspected shoplifter, in front of horrified Christmas shoppers.

On Monday, the suspected thief stabbed security guard Paul Cavanagh in the neck with a carving knife, as Cavanagh tackled him in the busy Norwich music store. The 30-year-old collapsed, suffering severe blood loss, and died a few hours later.

A second security guard was also stabbed in the shoulder.

The stabber and an accomplice fled the scene in the packed Chapelfield shopping centre. Police launched a helicopter search and two men were arrested. The 18-year-old and 19-year-old are being questioned.

The second security guard - who police have not named - was released from hospital following treatment.

The HMV store remained sealed off yesterday as forensic teams searched the premises.

HMV managing director Steve Knott said: 'Everybody at HMV is deeply saddened and shocked by this tragic death. We are struggling to come to terms with this terrible loss. The thoughts of everyone at HMV are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.'
