Fashion retailer claims sales improving
A poor performance by French Connection's spring/summer 2006 ranges was blamed for 'very disappointing' results for 2006, but the fashion retailer claimed 2007 is showing early signs of improvement.

For the year ending January 31, the fashion retailer posted pre-tax profit of£4 million, down from£12.2 million the previous year. Sales for the year were£241.3 million, down from£246.3 million.

French Connection said sales of its autumn/winter ranges had improved. For the few weeks of the spring/summer 2007 season, the chain said performance in UK and European stores improved, with like-for-like sales of full-price merchandise up 10 per cent.

'The financial results for the last year are very disappointing. However, we believe that there is good evidence to indicate that we are at the start of a new phase in our business cycle,' said French Connection chairman Stephen Marks.
