The UK lockdown has made remote working de rigueur and it has meant effective communication between retail leaders and their teams is more nuanced than ever.

From Zoom meetings to FaceTime calls to Houseparty chats, a range of different technologies and platforms are being used by retailers to successfully work and collaborate during this pandemic situation, while helping to maintain a sense of company culture.

In fact, this new world of working has proved so successful for some businesses that several retail leaders have suggested it could spell the end of the retail head office.

Yet, for many, maintaining an effective communication strategy over this period has been a minefield – requiring the adoption of digital leadership and a need to embrace innovation and new ideas.

To provide some clarity, retail executives from Be Inspired’s ambassador network – including Farfetch’s David Grunwald, Pets at Home’s Claire Gavin, John Lewis Partnership’s Patrick Lewis, Lucky Saint’s Emma Heal and Hallett Retail’s Wendy Hallett – have shared their advice on what good looks like when it comes to communicating with teams remotely.
