WHSmith picks ex-Hammicks MD as book supremo

WHSmith has appointed the former managing director of Hammicks Trevor Goul-Wheeker as executive director of books.

The hiring is part of a plan to strengthen the book business unit structure, after the departure of business unit director Cathy Ferrier last month.

Goul-Wheeker, who left Hammicks in April, following its acquisition by Ottakar's, will take up the newly-created role on September 30. WHSmith plans to make further appointments to the unit.

- WHSmith is due to reopen its Guildford store today, with a new look developed with the help of external consultants and placing a strong emphasis on stationery.
