Waterstone's to open hat-trick of stores for Xmas

Waterstone's has secured three sites to open in the run-up to Christmas 2003. The new branches will be in Edinburgh, Huddersfield and Romford.

In Edinburgh, a 3,900 sq ft (360 sq m) store will open in late October at Ocean Terminal, Forth Ports' retail development at Leith.

In November, Waterstone's will open in Hammerson's Liberty Centre in Romford, east London. The store will provide 5,500 sq ft (510 sq m) of trading space across two floors, as well as a coffee shop. In the same month, the bookseller will open a 3,500 sq ft (325 sq m) store in the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Waterstone's operations director Martin Carr said more acquisitions are in the pipeline. 'As part of Waterstone's overall location strategy, we have identified several new markets for branches,' he said.
