To help suppliers and stop wastage
Supermarket chain Waitrose is to begin selling visually-flawed and odd-shaped fruit at discounted prices.

The move comes in response to criticisms that the big supermarkets only sell perfect-looking produce, which causes wastage and puts unreasonable pressure on suppliers.

The group said the decision would help its suppliers sell their inferior-looking fruit and vegetables. Previously, they have had to look elsewhere to off-load these products.

The class-two fruit and vegetables will be packaged as suitable for cooking and jam making and will cost from 50p to£1 less a kilo on average.
