Toys R Us profits tumble in spite of sales uplift

Out-of-town toy giant Toys R Us has disclosed UK profits are down by nearly a third, despite rising sales. Accounts newly filed at Companies House revealed that the UK division increased sales by 9.6 per cent to£535.8 million in the year to February 1, but pre-tax profits fell 30 per cent to£11 million.

Over the same period, the US giant notched up global sales of US$11.3 billion (£6.79 billion) worldwide, including US$2.16 billion (£1.29 million) at its international division outside the US. At the end of year results on March 5, Toys R Us said that the UK had yielded 'particularly strong results'.
