Wickes sister brand Toolstation is gunning to expand aggressively.

The building product and tools retailer - which serves consumers as well as trade - is on the hunt for 40 sites following “years of steady success”. It has 60 shops at present.

Direct call centre and online sales have traditionally accounted for much of the Travis Perkins-owned retailer’s business, but over the past two years it has expanded its trade counters, which it said have “added considerably” to its overall profitability.

Property manager Philip MacLauchlan said Toolstation wants shops of 4,000 sq ft to 8,000 sq ft.
