TK Maxx, Peacocks and Bonmarché have begun fit-outs of their stores in the £90m redevelopment of Wembley Central in northwest London.

The fashion retailers are expected to open for trading next month.

The Wembley development will include 135,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space and also 24,000 sq ft of offices and 259 apartments.

The redevelopment is being managed by a joint venture between property developers St Modwen and Rotch. St Modwen senior development manager Killian Morris said attracting new retailers to the area will help it compete “on a more level playing field with northwest London’s out-of-town retail centres and the new development in and around Wembley stadium”.

Separately, Sainsbury’s has started work on a 62,000 sq ft shop in St Modwen’s development in Farnborough in Hampshire.
